This policy explains how Dayout Atlas handles information when you use our website https://dayoutatlas.com/ and its installable app version (the “Site”).
Dayout Atlas is a directory of day-out destinations. You don’t need an account to use it, and we don’t ask you to register or sign in. As a result, we collect very little information about you.
1. Information we collect
We do not collect names, passwords, or payment details — the Site has no login or checkout.
Automatically collected. Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard technical details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the date and time. This is used to run and secure the Site.
Stored in your own browser. To make the Site work and remember your choices, small amounts of data are saved on your device (via cookies and browser storage), such as:
- the places you save as favourites,
- a marker so a “Was this helpful?” vote or star rating isn’t counted twice from the same device,
- whether you’ve installed or dismissed the app prompt.
We never receive this browser-stored data — it stays on your device, and you can clear it any time through your browser settings.
2. Cookies
We and some third parties use cookies and similar technologies to run the Site, remember preferences, measure traffic, and show ads. You can control or delete cookies in your browser. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
3. Third-party services
Some parts of the Site are provided by other companies, which may collect information (like your IP address and cookie identifiers) directly from your browser under their own privacy policies:
- Ads — we may show ads from advertising networks, which may use cookies to display and personalise ads. You can opt out of personalised ads at aboutads.info/choices, youronlinechoices.eu, and Google’s Ads Settings.
- Booking links — many booking links (flights, stays, cars, activities, and more) are affiliate links. If you click one and book, the partner may set a cookie to credit us, and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Your booking and payment details are handled entirely by that partner, not by us.
- Search widgets — some sections load booking search widgets
- Maps — maps use OpenStreetMap and other tile providers; loading a map sends your IP address to them.
- Weather & air quality — some pages show weather and air-quality data from third-party providers.
We don’t control these companies and aren’t responsible for their practices.
4. How we use information
We use the limited information above to run, secure, and improve the Site, remember your preferences, understand which pages are useful, show and measure ads, and credit affiliate referrals.
5. The app
If you install Dayout Atlas as an app, it runs the same website in an app window and can cache pages to work offline. Booking and affiliate links open in your device’s browser or the partner’s app — not inside our app window. The app collects nothing extra beyond what’s described here.
6. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information is only shared with the third-party services above so they can do their job, or if required by law.
7. Your choices
Because there are no accounts, we hold very little about you — essentially just standard server logs.
- Your saved places and preferences live in your browser — clear them any time via your browser settings.
- Ad and affiliate cookies are set by third parties — manage them through your browser and the opt-out links in Section 3.
- We can’t delete data that third parties hold about you; those requests go to the provider.
8. Children
The Site isn’t intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above.
